Annual BAAT 2008 November Pary (Tazungdine Pwe) will be on November 15th Saturday at Tracy Gee Center in Houston from 5:30PM to 10:30PM. This year's entertainer is a famous singer Yanana Oo who is visiting the United States from Burma.

BAAT has collected $36,990 and donated $36,503 (with additional $16,500 matching fund) as of Sep 19, 2008 to Myanmar Cyclone victims.

As many of you know, on May 2, 2008, Cyclone Nargis made landfall in the Irrawaddy division in Myanmar (Burma). The Cyclone pushed a wall of water as high as 12 feet, approximately 25 miles inland over a low-lying, densely populated delta region.  Joint ASEAN-UN assessment confirmed that the damage and losses were in a similar scale of impact that of the Indian Ocean Tsunami in Indonesia in 2004.  The United Nations says 2.4 million people (approximately 5% of the population of Burma) are struggling to rebuild their lives and are in need of aid after the storm, which left more than 138,000 dead or missing.

The BAAT has been collecting donations since May of 2008 and so far has collected around USD 40,000.00 which is well short of original estimate of USD 250,000.  Right now we are in rehabilitation phase, which will take quite a long time to rebuild communities, schools, livelihoods of the people whose lives were destroyed.  To check on the BAAT’s activities up to date, please visit our website at www.baatx.org.  Your contribution will go directly to the victims who need it the most.
